Heroes of Newerth (HoN) review

Heroes of Newerth (HoN) is a strategy game, very similiar to Defense of the Ancients (DotA) as it has taken most of the content for the game from DotA. In the game you will mostly fight in either 3v3 or 5v5 matches. At the moment in the lands of Newerth there's just 2 totally functional maps released, but as the mapeditor came within the famous "HoN 2.0" release (December 13, 2010), everyone is free to make their maps, and if they're good, they will get published by S2 Games company, which is the developers of the game.
The game released beta stage started at April 24, 2009 and officially released at May 12, 2010. The game is pretty fresh, since it's been running for just a little more than half a year, yet it's already at peaks of 40.000 players online! Ain't that amazing? But that's not for no reason, - it just proves that the game is entertaining - many people are enjoying, and therefore buying it.
Basically, the game is all about teamwork. Doesn't matter what hero you play (you can choose from over 70), you will still have to cooperate with your teammates if you want to win.
Right now there's 2 main modes in the Lands of Newerth - casual and normal mode. If you are more of a chilled guy who just wants to spend time having fun, you would probably chooose to play casual mode most of the time. No gold loss, faster process of the game, and if you're into tournaments and competetive play, you might want to play normal mode more. Although it depends on you, I'm a chilled guy, yet I like to play normal mode because I find it more balanced and challenging. Myself I have played over 500 matches, and I don't regret. Anyways, let's get to the positives and negatives of Heroes of Newerth.
Newerth positive sides:
- Doesn't get boring fast
- Neat graphics
- Lag free
- Caring staff
- One time fee for lifetime access to the game
- Constant patches and updates
- Leaver protection (rarely someone will leave a game because of this system)
- Built in voice chat (plug a working microphone into your pc and get going!)
- Matchmaking (easy to find matches of same skill players)
Newerth downsides:
- Most of the community is awful (you will get raged alot on at the start, if you're not familiar with games like this)
- Only 2 main maps
- Some underpowered heroes
